Field Stations and Marine Laboratories provide infrastructure, resources, and relationships essential to our understanding of the natural world, to the conservation of biodiversity, and for the education and
empowerment of young field scientists. I am passionate about these place-based institutions and work to
advocate for increased governmental and philanthropic support for Field Stations and Marine Laboratories and to develop my skillset in their operation and management.
Board of Directors - Organization of Biological Field Stations (2023-)
I serve on the Board of Directors for the 501(c)3 non-profit. OBFS represents over 300 field stations across the globe, bringing together field station leaders to transform field biology and address global challenges. On the Board, I share financial oversight and responsibility for the organization. Committee Chair - OBFS Outreach & Communications (2023-) I also chair the OBFS Outreach & Communications Committee to connect community members with their local Field Stations and Marine Laboratories (FSML) and to connect FSML leaders with their peers. I also lead the organization's advocacy agenda, highlighting the strategic importance of FSMLs for national and global scientific and educational goals. |
Strategic Planning Committee - Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (2022-2024)
I was part of the collaborative team of six that crafted RMBL's new Strategic Plan. The plan outlines the field station's vision and commitment to scientific discovery through place-based research and new technologies, to institutional resilience and stability for the organization's next one hundred years, and to the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion to fuel scientific innovation and opportunity. Research Committee - Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (2024-) I serve on RMBL's Research Committee tasked with reviewing proposed research and other projects with the goal of ensuring the long-term success of RMBL as a world-class institution for research and education in alpine field biology. Animal Care Committee - Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (2024-) I also serve on RMBL's Animal Care Committee tasked to help scientists and students maximize the welfare of their study organisms and to protect the wildlife biodiversity of the Rocky Mountains. Instructor - Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (2024-) I teach Rocky Mountain Wildlife, an undergraduate field course exploring the natural history, ecology, behavior, evolution, and conservation of wild vertebrates in the Rocky Mountains. With a focus on adaptations for living at high elevation, the course leverages the diverse science and scientists at RMBL to give students hands-on experience with research methods and science communication. |
